Sidney Howard Templeton, known to many as "Cowboy", passed away on October 13, 2026, in Grand Saline, Texas. He was born on September 27, 1947, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Sidney lived a life shaped by hard work, learning, and a warm-hearted spirit. He was a 1965 high school graduate in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and continued his education at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 1972. Those who knew him remember a man who was generous, creative, and kind, qualities that touched both family and friends throughout his life.
He was the owner of Cowboys BBQ, a role that reflected both his entrepreneurial spirit and his love of food. He was also a substitute teacher, and many of the children he taught affectionately knew him as “Mr. T.” In both of these callings, Sidney left an impression through his steady presence, his personality, and the way he connected with others.
Sidney especially enjoyed Dutch oven cooking and cowboy cooking, interests that suited his nickname well and brought together his creativity, skill, and love of sharing good food with others. He carried these passions in a way that made them part of how people remembered him.
On July 10, 1993, he married Sandra Templeton in Dell City, Texas. Their marriage was an important part of his life, and he carried her memory with him after her passing in January of 2026.
Sidney is survived by his son, Darin Bass, and Darin’s wife, Melissa; his sister, Susan Kay Starnes, and her husband, Gurney; and his grandchildren, Braxton Bass and Sibyl Bass. He also leaves behind the love and remembrance of all who were blessed to know him and share in his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Templeton; his father, Robert Nathan Templeton; his mother, Barbara Jean Templeton; and his brother, Buff Templeton.
Sidney Howard Templeton will be remembered with affection for his kindness, his generous nature, his creative spirit, and the many ways he served and encouraged others. His life leaves a lasting memory in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
Services for Mr. Templeton will be held at a later date.
