Obituary

Sigmund Albert Sherman Brandenburg, 86, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in West Tawakoni, Texas. Born on February 15, 1939, in Hagerstown, Maryland, he lived a life marked by service, dedication, and unwavering faith.

Sig graduated from Hagerstown High School with the Class of 1957. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably from November 1957 to September 1960, spending most of his service time stationed in Okinawa. His military years were a formative chapter that instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and commitment.

Following his military service, Sig embarked on a distinguished career with Bank of America. Over the course of 35 years, he rose through the ranks to retire as Senior Vice President in 1997. His tenure with the bank took him across the country—from Virginia to California, Arizona to Georgia, and finally Texas—where he left lasting impressions in each community he touched.

On August 2, 1964, Sig married Reba Eileen Wilder. Together they built a loving family and shared over six decades of partnership rooted in mutual respect and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife Reba; their son Matthew Brandenburg; daughter Bonnie Jorzig and husband Jeff; grandchildren Annie Jorzig, Ben Jorzig, Jaeger Jorzig, Jon Jorzig, and Abby Jorzig; and great-grandchildren Alexis Allen and Finley Allen.

Sig was preceded in death by his parents Earl Brandenburg and Margaret Carpenter Brandenburg; brother Arthur Brandenburg; and sisters Catherine Johnson and Marion Reno.

A man of deep faith and tireless service to others, Sig was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Wills Point, Texas. He previously served as a deacon at OCBC for eleven years where he mentored Pastor Andre Mooney during his first pastoral role. Whether visiting hospitals or comforting fellow church members, singing in the choir or serving on committees, Sig embodied the spirit of Christian servanthood. He also participated in nursing home ministries both in Arizona and Texas and was an auxiliary volunteer at Waxahachie Baylor Hospital where he earned recognition for completing over 500 volunteer hours. As president of his Sunday School class at OCBC and a member of Gideon's International, Sig's faith was not only personal but profoundly communal.

Outside of his professional and spiritual commitments, Sig found joy on the golf course and watching sports—especially baseball. A highlight of his life was playing professional baseball for the Baltimore Orioles. He also loved coaching and spending time with his grandchildren who brought immense joy into his life.

Known for his sharp wit and comical nature, Sig brought laughter wherever he went. His sense of humor was matched only by the respect he garnered from those around him—a solid Christian whose legacy is one of humility, strength, and love.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire lives rooted in service and grace.
