Susan Marie
Pace
March 15, 1954 – March 8, 2026
Susan Marie Pace (Conway) was born March 15, 1954, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Thomas Conway and Barbara Conway. She was the oldest of nine siblings and carried that role with strength, care, and devotion throughout her life. She passed from this earth into the arms of Jesus on March 8, 2026, at age 71.
Susan met the love of her life, Barry Pace, when she was just 14 years old. She graduated from South Grand Prairie High School in 1972. Then, married Barry on September 2, 1972. In March of 1980, on her birthday, the family moved to Wills Point, a community that she cherished and would become home for the rest of her life.
When her daughters began school, Susan started working for the local school district. What began as a job became her lifelong calling. Over the next 45 years, she faithfully served the district as a bus driver, substitute teacher, in the food service department as a server and manager, eventually working her way up to Child Nutrition Director. She loved the people she worked with and especially the students she served each day. Some of the ladies in the cafeteria worked with her for over 35 years! You could also often find her on Friday nights working in the ticket booth at football games, proudly supporting her school and community. Her dedication will have a lasting impact on the WP community. She was Wills Point PROUD!
Those who knew Susan knew she had a strong will and could be hard-headed a lot of times, but that determination and perseverance was also part of what made her so dedicated to her role in the school district. She had several years with perfect attendance, not missing a day of work. Her passion for caring for students went beyond simply providing meals. Through her steadfast pursuit of creating a better environment for students, she helped champion improvements to the school's dining facilities. In recognition of her dedication and lasting impact, the district dedicated and named the new dining hall in her honor on Thursday, March 5th. A day that filled her with so much joy.
Susan was a woman who loved the Lord and cared for others. If she told you she would pray for you, she truly meant it. Her bathroom became her "war room," where sticky notes covered the mirror with prayer requests for the people she loved. She was a member of the Shepherd House Family Church in Wills Point.
She was known as "Mamaw" to her grandchildren. Her great-grandson called her "Mamaw Pig," a nickname that perfectly matched her fondness for all things pigs. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her eight siblings, and daily phone calls with them or her Auntie KaKa. Her happy place was on her mower.
She is survived by her husband of over 53 years, Barry Pace; daughters Mistie Stephens and husband Jason, and Mickie Clair and husband Kevin; grandchildren Kobi Stephens and fiancé Dayton, Tyler Pace Clair and wife Shania, Mason Stephens, Joseph Clair and fiancé Aubrey, Emma Stephens, and Aaron Clair; great-grandson Dakota Pace Clair; brothers Tommy Conway and wife Christina, Jimmy Conway and wife Tina, Timmy Conway and wife Mimi, Joey Conway; sisters Theresa Roundtree, Kathy Hall, Patty Hoskins; sister-in-law Glenda Conway; Godmother Karen "Auntie KaKa" Dunn, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Conway.
