Funeral services for Veda Glen Hayes, 60, of Mesquite, formerly of Wills Point, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Wills Point with Rev. Lonnie Cunigan officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Wills Point under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.

She passed away Tuesday evening, September 13, 2016, in a Mesquite hospital.

Veda was born August 20, 1956, in Terrell, the daughter of Billy Eugene Hayes and Florence Bernice Williamson Asher. She was raised in Wills Point and graduated from Wills Point High School in 1975. For twenty years she was married to Leon Lyons. Veda was employed as a telephone operator for AT&T in Tyler for twenty-five years, retiring in 2008. After retirement, she worked for four years at Four Seasons. She lived in Wills Point prior to moving to Mesquite in 1998. She enjoyed shopping, working crossword puzzles, watching Judge Judy and buying shoes. Veda was a member of The Potter's House Church in Dallas.

Preceded in death by her father, Billy Eugene Hayes; mother, Florence Asher and a brother, Barry Hayes.

Veda is survived by her three daughters, Leiloni Lyons & husband, Carlo Lindley, of Greenville, Keena Lyons, of Mesquite and Daphne Lyons, of Mesquite; five sisters, Valey Asher, of Wills Point, Vivian Asher, of Fort Worth, Dawn Hayes, of California, Darrian Hayes, of California and Danielle Hayes, of California; three grandchildren, Jarrod Lyons, Jaquan Lyons and Zariah "Muncha" Hart; nieces and nephew, Keiandra Lyons, Shunta Jackson and Ray Gaines; aunts and uncles, Phillip Williamson, Lenora Williamson, Vernon Pervis and Grace Thomas; favorite cousin, Sharon Pickens; long time loyal friends, Ruby Brooks, Barbara Roberson, Theresa Handy and Brenda Woods and a host of cousins and friends.
