Virginia Ruth (Mays) Samples Calhoun Holcomb Parr, age 90, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in Rowlett, Texas. Born on August 6, 1935, in De Kalb, Texas, she lived a long and full life marked by devotion to family, faith, and service to others.

Virginia was the daughter of James Ransom Mays and Ola Mae Callie (Moore) Mays. She graduated from De Kalb High School in her hometown and went on to dedicate much of her professional life to Alexander Hospital, Terrell State Hospital, and several nursing homes in the Kaufman and Terrell Area. Her work reflected her compassionate nature and deep commitment to caring for others.

Throughout her life, Virginia was known for her adventurous spirit and generous heart. She found joy in simple pleasures—crocheting intricate patterns with care, quilting alongside friends in local clubs, and preparing home-cooked meals that brought people together. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of her cooking and the warmth of shared stories.

Virginia was a woman of strong faith. She was a devoted member of Locust Grove Baptist Church in Hiram, Texas, where she found spiritual strength and community.

She experienced love throughout her life and was preceded in death by her first husband JC Samples; second husband Charles A. Calhoun; third husband Ray Holcomb; and fourth husband Chester Parr.  She also mourned the loss of her son Jeffrey Clyde Samples; daughter-in-law Julie; granddaughters Marcia Marie McBride and Mindy Lynn Henderson; and her younger sister Dorothy Fern Mays Hill Ellington.

Virginia leaves behind a large and loving family who will carry forward her legacy of kindness and resilience. She is survived by her son James Monroe Samples; daughters Cynthia Pratt and husband Mark, and Chetene Gooch and husband Osey Joshlin. Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren: Kerry Ann Shields; Jeffrey Clyde Samples II; Brandy Chanthaseng and husband Thong; Angela McFarland and husband Phillip; Jesse Samples and wife Lindsay; Marcuss M. McBride and wife Stacy; Matthew A. Pratt and wife Kady; Adah L. Ketner and husband Justin; Elvis Wayne Laird; James M. Samples II and wife Jessica; Tony Samples and wife Cristina; Loretta Connolly and husband Anthony; Charlie Samples and wife Tochebah.

Her legacy continues through numerous great-grandchildren: Jessica, LeAnn, Janie, Jasmine, James, Paige, Madison, Sophia, Olivia, Megan, Louisa, Oliver, Tiffany, Anthony, Lana, Cheyanne, Dakota, MaKenzie, Brianna, Jake, Abbie, Laura, Julia, Alex, Andrew, Skylar, Austin, Addison, Kailey, Emma, Erica, Donnavan, Taylor, Eli, Chey, Aiden, Tessa, Patric, Emily and Sirrea; along with several great-great grandchildren. She also left behind a host of dear friends that she was loyal to.

Virginia's life was one of purpose—rooted in faith, enriched by family bonds both near and far-reaching—and defined by a quiet strength that touched all who knew her.
